Saturday Night Live has delighted fans with a “hilarious” spoof on the Kanye West and Skechers saga.
During Saturday’s (29 October) show, Bowen Yang and Cecily Strong performed in a Skechers advertisement as employees praising the brand for denying a proposed partnership with West.
The skit was in response to events that transpired earlier this week when the “Flashing Lights” rapper was escorted from Skechers headquarters following his unannounced visit days after Adidas had severed ties with him over his antisemitic comments.
“Like the rest of the country, we were appalled by Kanye’s horrific comments and we vow to never work with him in any capacity,” Strong said.
“But can I also point out that of all the companies he could’ve approached and been rejected by, he chose Skechers?
“I guess you could say that Skechers employees are kind of heroes,” she said, before Yang added: “Two years ago, could you’ve imagined the headline: Skechers too good for Kanye?”
Responding to the skit, many fans praised its “cleverly written” humour, with cartoonist Neil Kleid writing: “That Skechers SNL sketch was pretty great.”
Another branded it “perfect”, while a third added: “Did what I hoped they would do #skechers.”
“This Skechers skit is hilarious,” a fourth lauded.
Later in the show, first-time host rapper Jack Harlow stunned viewers with his unrecognisable appearance during multiple of the show’s sketches.
Earlier this week, it was announced on Twitter that comedian and actor Amy Schumer would be returning to host the comedy sketch series, joined by “Bad Habit” singer Steve Lacy as the evening’s musical guest on 5 November.
Saturday Night Live airs on NBC at 11:30pm ET and 8:30pm PT on Saturdays and streams on Peacock the following day.
