A mum has been found guilty of stealing a friend's frog-styled ring in a crime described as "mean".
Lorraine Vann had denied the theft charge and it was the only allegation she was convicted on today (Thursday, March 10) at her Nottingham Crown Court trial.
She was cleared on further allegations of theft and on fraud charges involving the same victim.
Vann, who was supported by a court-appointed intermediary, was sentenced to a 12-month conditional discharge by the Recorder of Nottingham, Judge Gregory Dickinson QC.
He told Vann, 51, of Ladysmith Street, Sneinton: "You told the jury you took the ring. You gave it back but only when the victim found it was missing and knew it was you and asked for it back.
"The jury have found you not guilty of all other charges, where you always said you did not take the items. I have to sentence you for one charge of theft.
"It is mean because the victim thought you were a friend and she invited you into her home and you took advantage of that and that, for the victim, was very upsetting".
The ring was returned, the court heard.
