A smoke cloud could be seen rising from an area of southern Tehran on Saturday (28 February) after Israel launched a coordinated attack with the U.S on Iran’s capital.
The first apparent strike happened just after 8am near the offices of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran and Israel have closed their airspace, while officials in Tehran said supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been transferred to a secure location.
The move takes place against a backdrop of escalating tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme, its ongoing uranium enrichment activities, which Western governments suspect could potentially be used to develop nuclear weapons.
