A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "On arrival crews found a shipping container and van fully involved in fire which had spread to nearby factory units. Crews immediately began fighting the fire using two hose reel jets and one main branch hose.

"Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus continued fighting the fire externally using two high power hose reel jets alongside one main jet.

"The fire is now extinguished and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are continuing to dampen down the scene."
