Australia are confident Steve Smith will be able to play a part in trying to save the second Test against South Africa, after neck stiffness caused him serious grief on day four.
Smith had loomed as Australia's main centre of resistance in their first-innings horror show, as the tourists slumped to 99 all out in reply to the Proteas' 9-425 declared on Wednesday.
But though he had looked in good touch through the first 55 balls of his innings, Smith required medical treatment after flinging his head around following an edge off Kagiso Rabada.
