Small surf forces WSL layday for stars at Sunset Beach

Competition in the second event of the World Surf League championship tour season has been postponed with a layday called due to small surf at Sunset Beach in Hawaii.

"We're meant to have good waves tomorrow with clean offshore conditions and hope to get things started (then)," said WSL chief of sport Jessi Miley-Dyer on Sunday (Monday AEDT).

Fresh from his victory in the season opener at Banzai Pipeline, Jack Robinson heads the Australian men's contingent also including Ethan Ewing, Liam O'Brien, Jackson Baker, Callum Robson, Connor O'Leary and Ryan Callinan.

Reigning and eight-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore was ousted early at Pipeline and will be out to make amends as she leads an Australian women's group including Pipeline finalist Tyler Wright, Molly Picklum, Sally Fitzgibbons and Macy Callaghan.
