A small family business in Dundalk, Maryland, is coming together to support one of its employees, Isabel Franco, whose husband, Jose Mynor Lopez, went missing in the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on Tuesday.
The Owls Corner Café, where Franco works, initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist Franco and her family during this difficult time. The campaign quickly surpassed its $25,000 goal within a day, showcasing the outpouring of support from the community.
Owner Lilly Ordonez shared that the café will be closed for the remainder of the week as a gesture of respect for Lopez and his family. She described Lopez as a dedicated husband and father, known for his hard work and commitment to his loved ones.
Ordonez expressed her deep connection to the family and revealed that Franco is currently in a state of shock, anxiously awaiting any updates on her husband's whereabouts. She mentioned that Franco is struggling to sleep and eat, consumed by worry and uncertainty.
Despite the heartbreaking situation, Lopez's 17-year-old daughter is stepping up to provide crucial support to her mother and younger siblings. Ordonez highlighted the family's resilience and unity during this challenging period.
The organizers of the fundraising campaign intend to allocate additional funds to assist other families affected by the bridge collapse. While local authorities have not confirmed Lopez's status among the missing individuals, the community remains hopeful for positive news amidst the tragedy.
