Slough fire: Huge blaze rips through bus station as black smoke billows into sky

A huge fire has ripped through a UK bus station overnight as police tell Brits to avoid the area.

Flames can be seen from the top of Slough Bus Station as firefighters and police stood nearby as plumes of black smoke billow into the sky.

The station has now shut as a result of the blaze, with locals told to avoid the area.

Thames Valley Police tweeted: "Officers are on scene, supporting colleagues @RBFRSofficial dealing with a large fire at Slough Bus Station in Brunel Way.

"Cordons and road closures are in place, members of the public are advised to avoid the area. We would thank you in advance for your assistance in this."

The blaze erupted just hours after a huge fire swept through a laundrette in Blairgowrie, Scotland, turning the sky red as explosions are heard.

Firefighters and police were on the scene last night at Blair's laundry and dry cleaners.

Emergency calls were made around 7pm with footage shared on social media showing thick, black smoke and flames billowing from the business.

Witnesses reported seeing a 'mushroom cloud' as the fire erupted, reports the Daily Record.

Nine appliances, including fire engines, were dispatched to the scene, helping to tackle the inferno.

The cause of the fire, as well as if anyone was inside the building, was not clear.

Members of the public were urged to avoid the area and to close their windows due to the amount of smoke in the air.

The laundrette is understood to be in the middle of a housing estate.

There was reportedly some concern around chemicals which are said to be stored on the premises.

An eyewitness told the Scottish Sun: “This is a laundry business that has been in the town for many, many years.

“The fire has pretty much destroyed the laundry building with flames through the roof end-to-end.”

They said the fire station is nearby the laundrette and described seeing firefighters using breathing apparatus.

They added that a large crowd had gathered to watch as the scene unfolded.

MSP for Perthshire North, John Swinney took to Twitter to say he was "deeply concerned".

He tweeted: “Deeply concerned about the news of a serious fire at the long-standing Blair’s laundry in Blairgowrie.

“Hope everyone is safe and thanks to @fire_scot @PoliceScotland for their work tonight.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 7.20pm on Friday, 28 October 2022, police received a report of fire at a premise in Emma Street, Blairgowrie. Police and SFRS are at the scene."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "SFRS received a 999 call at 7.02pm to a report of a Building fire in Emma Street, Blairgowrie.

"We currently have six pumping appliances and three specialist appliances in attendance.

"Firefighters are using main jets to extinguish the fire."
