Slimming World consultant's five top tips for losing weight on a budget

With the New Year well and truly up and running, people across the country will be trying their very best to stick to the New Years resolutions they've set themselves. For many, the goal of living a healthier lifestyle and exercising more is top of that list but with money being tight for countless UK households, changing lifestyles can seem impossible.

However, Slimming World consultant Kirsty Roberts has revealed some top tips for losing weight on a budget as she says that money being tight should not be a restriction on living a healthier and more active life.

Mum-of-two Kirsty is a Slimming World consultant from Porthmadog, Wales. She has shared her five top tips for losing weight on a budget, helping you to both save and lose the pounds at the same time.

Meal planning

Meal planning is key. If you know what you're having for the week this can massively keep the costs down. Having a shopping list of exactly what you need stops all those little unnecessary extras falling into your basket.

Make some super swaps! Fresh is best but not always on our pockets. Frozen and canned fruit and vegetables work just as well, especially in meal ideas like overnight oats.

Bulk cooking

Bulk cooking is not only beneficial for us financially but also great if we're struggling with time. Life is busy for all of us in one way or another, but taking one to two hours out of the week to make a few different meals can make losing weight much easier. Not only that, but cooking and freezing meals also reduces waste - it's a win-win.

If you're stuck for time and ideas, knowing you've made a little extra the night before always saves the day. Not only that, but it takes away any temptation to head to the shops to grab a takeaway lunch. Spending £5+ a day on lunch soon adds up. That's £1,300 annually just on one person having lunch five times a week.

This seems really obvious, but it's surprising how many people believe that to lose weight you need to eat different foods to the rest of the family, which only bumps up the cost of your weekly shop.
