Sligo and Cavan clash in the Tailteann Cup this weekend as both sides look to book their place in the first-ever final of the competition.
The newly-formed second tier series has thrown up some interesting affairs, and Sligo's recent scuffle with Leitrim served as a perfect example of the kind of drama this competition could offer up in the coming years.
The sides could not be separated after 70 minutes and two 10 minute periods of extra-time did nothing to put one ahead of the other, with Leitrim's 2-16 matched by Sligo's haul of 1-19.
It proceeded to penalties and Sligo's goalkeeper Aidan Devaney announced himself as the hero of the day, saving two spot kicks which guided Sligo on their way to finally securing the win.
Their opponents Cavan had a more harmonious and straightforward experience in their quarter-final win over Fermanagh.
Storming into the Erne County's backyard, they left in buoyant mood following a 0-13 to 2-16 win.
Their manager Mickey Graham believes there has been a strong competitive edge to the Tailteann Cup.
He said: “The teams in the Tailteann Cup look well balanced and there have been some great games in it so far.
“I'm expecting the same this weekend with ourselves and Sligo and Westmeath and Offaly in the other semi-final.
"All four of the teams would fancy their chances of getting to the final."
