Sleep expert's five tips on getting a peaceful snooze in hot weather

With Scottish weather predicted to heat up again, many will be dreading going to bed as the heat upsets their good night's rest. After Scotland saw its hottest day at 29.3C on Sunday, temperatures are set to cool slightly through the week, but they could once again pass the 25C mark this weekend.

This spell of hot weather could gravely impact the country's sleep schedule. According to sleep experts at Silentnight, there is a direct connection between hot weather and poor sleep.

Warmer weather can result in more sleepless nights, as the heat can make some uncomfortable, leading to tossing and turning. As well as this, shorter summer nights mean the body has less natural cues telling it to switch off, reports Wales Online.

Luckily, Silentnight sleep expert Hannah Shore has shared some tip tops on how to get a peaceful sleep during the hot weather.

She said: “Sleeping in the heat can be a real nightmare, we are constantly throwing off the duvet, twisting and turning and trying to find the “cool” side of the pillow, all of which affects the quality of the sleep we get.

"If you have difficulty sleeping during the warmer months, you should consider having a different duvet for summer and winter. Your summer duvet should be a lightweight duvet, and if you’re still too warm to sleep, this can be swapped for a sheet.

“You should also ensure your bedding is made from breathable fibres. Natural fibres are good at temperature regulating however, some people find these materials a little heavy. If that’s you, opt for polyester, as these will offer you a breathable sleeping environment but will not be as heavy."
