Sleep expert on what your dreams say about you - from being chased to teeth falling out

There are many different theories as to why humans dream, and there is not much agreement about what the answer could be.

Some experts say that dreams are key for the brain to interpret and sort through the emotions of the day. While others say they could act as rehearsals for future events.

Either way, dreams are pretty much a mystery to most of us and as a lot of dreams are forgotten almost straight away, we may never be able to interpret every dream.

But some experts at Bed Kingdom have shared what could be behind the five most common dreams and what they mean for how you are feeling in your life.

A spokesperson from Bed Kingdom says that: "Dreams can be linked to events that have happened or are currently happening in our lives.

"Remembering dreams can be difficult. Studies show that people forget 80-90% of their dreams and some people can’t remember anything. Writing dreams down as soon as you wake up can help you to remember and then you can try and interpret the meanings."

So, here are the five most common themed dreams and explanations as to what could be behind them:

Falling in your dreams

The main interpretation around dreams about falling comes from feelings of fear and being overwhelmed or helpless.

But these sorts of dreams could also be your mind's way of telling you to be careful and look closely in your everyday life for potential threats.

Being chased in your dreams

Any feelings of stress and anxiety you feel in your waking everyday life could relate to dreams about being chased.

These types of dreams can come from feelings of anger towards something in your everyday life and are again another way of telling you to be careful and keep an eye out for potential threats.

Teeth falling out in your dreams

If you have a bit of a lack of confidence or are not totally ok with your body image, you might begin to dream about your teeth falling out.

This can also suggest issues with communication as you are not able to talk when your teeth have fallen out.

Being naked

Dreams centered around being naked somewhere which could be quite embarrassing could be a way of dealing with feelings of exposure and vulnerability.

They can come about as well by feeling accused of something by somebody.

On the other end of the spectrum, dreams of nakedness can also suggest you are just comfortable in your own skin.

Flying

These dreams can suggest you feel free of something. But if you are struggling to fly in the dream it could suggest a lack of confidence in your everyday life.

Also, if somebody is in the dream with you where you are struggling to fly, it could suggest they are holding you back from completing what you want to in your life.

The spokesperson adds: "Negative emotions and feelings of anxiety are more prevalent in dreams according to a study of over 50,000 people by psychologist Calvin S. Hall. By analysing dreams, we can problem solve and identify ways to help with issues we encounter in our lives."
