Pop musician Slayyyter has gone scorched earth on animal rights organisation PETA after it demanded she “start respecting animals” over her history of wearing fur.
The tit-for-tat kicked off on Tuesday, when PETA shared social media pics of Slayyyter draped in a fox fur coat and tippet, which she originally posted last month.
“Wearing animals makes you the Worst Girl in America,” PETA wrote, in reference to Slayyyter’s 2026 album of the same name.
In the caption, PETA mentioned the inhumane ways that “curious and intelligent” foxes are killed for their fur, saying the animals are “not accessories [to] sling over your shoulder” and telling Slayyyter to “do better for animals and your fans”.
Not taking the call-out kindly, Slayyyter hit back on X on Thursday, resharing a bunch of negative news headlines about PETA dating back as far as 2012.
One story she shared, published in The Atlantic, covered the organisation’s “Horrible… history of killing animals” while another detailed PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk’s (shockingly true) request in her will to be made into leather upon her death.
Not stopping there, Slayyyter doubled-down in a follow-up X post, calling PETA “f**cking nuts”.
“All the fur I own is vintage and antique by the way,” she explained. “I would never ever buy anything new or anything that contributes to the fur trade industry.”
Slayyyter added that wearing vintage fur “does not ‘normalise’ fur”, saying instead that it “normalises sustainability, which is better for the environment”.
Hitting back, PETA replied to Slayyyter’s post by saying that “wearing an animal’s dead body, face and all, DOES normalise fur”.
“Our open-admission shelter never turns an animal away, and we are honoured to provide suffering animals who have nowhere else to turn with a peaceful exit,” the organisation added. “No shade, if you’re going to wear vintage, wear vintage faux.”
It’s not the first time PETA has criticised a celebrity, with everyone from Kim Kardashian to Pete Davidson, Justin Bieber and Kanye West catching the ire of the organisation over the years.
Slayyyter is currently touring The Wor$t Girl in America in the US, with speculation mounting that she will also perform Down Under after dollar signs, which feature in the album title, started appearing on marquees across different Australian venues.
