Skeletal dog whose owner 'couldn't afford the vet' has to be put down

A dog who was left to become emaciated and sick in 'unmentionable circumstances' has had to be put to sleep. The pet weighed just 26 pounds when she was found by an RSPCA officer collapsed on the kitchen floor - with her owner claiming he couldn't afford to take her to the vet.

Crossbreed Sacha's owner Philip Robertson, has now been banned from keeping all animals for the rest of his life after pleading guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to his dog. A court heard evidence from RSPCA animal rescue officer Jessica Pierce who visited Robertson's home in January this year following welfare concerns.

“I arrived at the address and was met by a man at the door who was not the owner of the dog but I was invited in and shown upstairs,” she said in her evidence. “In the kitchen I observed an elderly female brindle dog lying on an old coat on the floor.
