SK Sreenivasan's murder in Kerala: Three arrested, one taken in custody

PALAKKAD: One person was taken into custody on Saturday and three persons, including an imam, were arrested on Friday late night by the special investigation team in the murder of RSS leader SK Sreenivasan at Melamuri.

With this, seven persons have been arrested in the case and one in custody. Four persons were arrested on Thursday. The remaining eight persons, including the three involved in the murder, are absconding. But they have not left the district and will be nabbed soon, said ADGP Vijay Sakhare here on Saturday.

The arrested are Kunnumpuram resident Afshak (23), Sankuvarathode mosque imam Sadam Hussain (30), a native of Kanjirapuzha near Mannarkkad, and Ashraf (29) of Kallamparambil, Kavilpad, in Palakkad town. Hussain was arrested for helping SDPI activists hide their mobile and personal documents in the mosque. He is involved in the conspiracy to murder Sreenivasan, police said.

Prohibitory orders extended till Thursday:

Meanwhile, the district administration has extended the prohibitory orders in Palakkad under Section 144 of the CrPC till Thursday, based on the report of a serious law and order situation.It banned assembly of four or more persons under Section 144. Public meetings and demonstrations are not allowed. Carrying of weapons is banned under Indian Arms Act. Carrying of explosives is also banned under the Indian Explosives Act of 1884 Section 4.
