Maoists torch vehicles, assault private firm workers in Jharkhand

Members of banned Communist Party of India (Maoists) on Wednesday allegedly torched at least six vehicles and assaulted two employees of a private road construction company in Palamu district of Jharkhand.

The incident happened at Haldiya Ghat area under Chhatarpur police station jurisdiction, which is around 220 km away from the State capital Ranchi, said district officials. Palamu is in the northwestern part of the State and shares its boundary with Bihar in the north.

“Maoists torched six vehicles, including trucks, engaged in road construction work on Wednesday. Around 15 Maoists reached the construction site and also beat up two employees of the private company engaged in the construction work. We have launched manhunt to nab the Maoists involved in the incident”, said Ajay Kumar, Sub-Divisional Police officer of Chhatarpur.

“It is suspected that Maoists attacked the construction site for levy”, he added.

Earlier in September 2022, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director-General Kuldeep Singh had said that the “fight with Maoists in Jharkhand is in the last stages”.
