Six teenagers arrested after Scots city centre disturbance leaves man hospitalised

Six teenagers have been charged in connection with anti-social behaviour in a city centre. The youngsters were detained following the incidents in Aberdeen yesterday, Saturday, 24 June, 2023.

A man was taken to hospital after police received a report of a man having been assaulted on Union Street in the city centre at around 7.10pm. A second man, aged 36, was reportedly assaulted on St Nicholas Street at around 8.40pm. The 36-year-old was uninjured in the attack.

Four youngsters were arrested in connection with the incidents. The males, aged 13, 13, 15 and 16, were also charged and will be reported to the Youth Justice Management Unit and Procurator Fiscal, Police Scotland said.

Another 15-year-old boy who was arrested and charged in connection with the incidents also faces drug offence claims and will also be reported to the Youth Justice Management Unit.

The oldest of the six arrested and charged in connection with the incidents, a 19-year-old male, has been released on an undertaking to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court at a later date.

Inspector John Lumsden, of the City Centre Community Policing Team, said: “Our enquiries into these incidents are ongoing and officers will continue to patrol these areas.

"We are aware of the effect anti-social behaviour has on the local community. Alongside our City Centre partners we are committed to encouraging people away from this kind of disorder, which will not be tolerated.

"We will take appropriate and robust action where incidents are reported and offenders identified. I encourage anyone with concerns about anti-social behaviour to contact Police on 101.”
