Six beaches across South Ayrshire have been hailed amongst the best in the country after scooping a national award.
The beaches - including Ayr, Troon and Girvan - picked up the Scotland’s Beach Award from environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful.
To secure the coveted award, beaches must meet the required criteria including beach safety, access and facilities, as well as cleanliness.
Focusing on local environmental quality, the award is designed to complement the work undertaken by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency on bathing water quality.
A total of 52 beaches have received the title this year - from Aberdeenshire to the Scottish Borders.
And with South Ayrshire boasting six of those 52 beaches, it’s easy to see why visitors and locals alike flock to golden sands across the area to enjoy a fantastic day out.
Beaches across South Ayrshire winning the coveted title are; Ayr, Prestwick, Troon (South Beach), Barassie, Maidens and Girvan.
This is the tenth consecutive year Maidens have picked up the gong, with Troon (South Beach) recognised for the eight consecutive year and Prestwick for the sixth year in a row.
Barassie beach is a new edition to the awards for 2023. Elsewhere in Ayrshire, Irvine beach also picked up a Scotland’s Beach Award.
Jamie Ormiston, Awards Officer at Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “Scotland’s Beach Awards are the benchmark for quality, celebrating clean, well-managed and sustainable beaches.
“Our award-winning beaches demonstrate excellent beach management and we hope that all who visit this year play their part in keeping them beautiful.
“I’d like to thank all those who do so much to protect, maintain and enhance our beaches, protecting the sand and sea for us all to enjoy.”
