Six records Mohamed Salah can still match or break at Liverpool after moving up scorers list

Mohamed Salah continued his climb up the Liverpool all-time goalscorers list on Saturday afternoon after his decisive strike secured three points at the expense of Nottingham Forest.

Salah has now found the back of the net 183 times for the Reds, moving him level with the same number of goals as Robbie Fowler. Only five players have scored more times than the Egyptian while representing the club.

Accused by some as having a poor season by his own standards, the 30-year-old has 27 goals to his name in all competitions this term and is on course to continue adding to this tally in the coming weeks.

Having already broken a number of records during his six years on Merseyside, the former AS Roma winger will no doubt be considering others way in which he can rewrite history as a Liverpool player. With this in mind, we have taken a look below at six possible options:

Most goals scored in a single season - Ian Rush (47)

Salah came close to equalling Ian Rush's stellar 1983/84 campaign, which saw the Welshman net a total of 47 times in 65 appearances across all competitions, during his debut season at Anfield.

Exceeding all expectations, the Egypt international scored a staggering 44 goals in 52 outings as Liverpool reached the final of the Champions League and finished third in the Premier League.

Most goals in a year - Ian Rush (44, 1986)

Rush may well have bagged 47 goals during 1983/84, but enjoyed his most prolific year in 1986 by breaching opposition defences on 44 occasions. Salah's best year for the Reds was 2018, in which he scored 37 times to issue a clear warning to rival teams of what was to come.

Most goals in a game - (5, five players)

A record that may proved harder than others to break, though the Liverpool No.11 was not far off matching the five-goal haul in a single match managed by five players in the past. Salah scored four goals during a comprehensive 5-0 home win over Watford in March 2018, in what remains a unforgettable display from the forward.

Most Champions League appearances for Liverpool - (Jamie Carragher, 91)

For the first year since joining the club, Salah's participation in the Champions League is under threat. Featuring in Europe's elite competition in each of the previous five campaigns, Liverpool look set to miss out on qualification after an underwhelming year.

Currently on 66 Champions League appearances as a Reds player, there is every chance Jamie Carragher's long-standing record could be bettered should Salah stick around for a few more years.

Most Premier League hat-tricks for Liverpool - (Robbie Fowler, 9)

Rather surprisingly, Salah only has four Premier League hat-tricks to his name since signing for the club. Watford, Bournemouth, Leeds United and Manchester United are the sides to have felt the full force of his attacking play, with a treble versus the latter undoubtedly the most memorable.

Robbie Fowler leads the way in this department with nine hat-tricks over the course of his Liverpool career, a number only surpassed by Alan Shearer (11) and Sergio Aguero (12) in Premier League history.

Most Premier League penalties scored - (Steven Gerrard, 32)

Letting himself down in this department, the 2019 Champions League winner has missed each of his previous three penalties in the Premier League. Seeing his effort saved by Kasper Schmeichel in a surprise 1-0 away defeat by Leicester City last term, Salah has sadly followed suit this season by wasting two opportunities from 12 yards.

His wayward effort versus Bournemouth proved costly last month as the Reds suffered a damaging loss on the South Coast and there was further agony earlier this month after he again fired wide of the goal with Liverpool trailing Arsenal 2-1 at Anfield.

Salah has converted 18 spot0kicks in total for the club, leaving him 14 adrift of Steven Gerrard.
