Six Glasgow restaurants and bars take home 'best in Scotland' at annual awards

Glasgow's food scene is expanding each month with many new cafes, restaurants and bars opening for some tasty and thirst-quenching treats.

As we all know, we have access to some of the best spots right on our door step with many chains and small businesses winning awards for their talents in recent weeks.

And just recently, more business were handed an award with some Glasgow eateries and bars being listed as the best in Scotland.

Now in its 26th year, the SLTN (Scottish Licensed Trade News) awards continues to represent the benchmark for excellence in Scotland's hospitality industry. SLTN is the leading publication for Scotland’s licensed trade and hospitality industry, with all the latest news, products and advice for the on-trade.

There were many winners this year with six alone in the city - two of which are some of the best music venues in Scotland, according to the prestigious industry awards event which saw Radisson RED Glasgow named Best Late-Night Venue with Saint Luke’s being crowned Best Music-Led Venue.

Speaking about the event, Radisson RED Curator Graham Chalmers said: “What a night at the Scottish Licensed Trade News Awards. Thank you to all of our friends, partners and supporters who have been on our journey past, present or future and helped make RED the venue it is today.

“This one means the world to us and we couldn’t have done it without you. With the RED Sky Bar upstairs – recently named one of the top 50 rooftop bars in the world – and the Oui Bar downstairs we can offer a lot of different events and I think people really appreciate that.

“Coming up with Skyline and bringing DJs I love from around the world, bringing Hed Kandi back to Scotland with its founder, bringing George and Generation GBX to the RED Sky Bar, launching Silicone Soul and Friends, it’s hard to believe how far we have come, especially over the last year or so.

“Working with partners including Clyde and Bauer to bring massive stars to our venue, Go Radio and their events, our hugely popular brunches and parties with Frazi.er, Riverside Festival and many more. We always felt we were much more than just a hotel - so to have this award recognise that is truly humbling.”

Music-Led Venue winner Saint Luke’s, the iconic former church, has quickly become one of the most loved gig venues on Scotland’s musical map and now officially the best of the lot with the likes of Lewis Capaldi and Gerry Cinnamon having performed there.

Owner, Michael Woods, added: “This is a real honour for us – music is at the heart of everything we do so this award means a lot.

“My brother and I rebuilt what was then a run-down old church ourselves, wanting to create something really special for the city and especially the East End.

“We love Saint Luke’s and we are really proud of what it has become, how loved it is by the artists who play here and the part it plays in the local community.

“Being named best Music-Led Venue in Scotland is something we never would have imagined when we were ripping out rotten floors and wondering what the hell we had got ourselves into.

“Thank you SLTN and thank you to the artists, the promoters and the fans who have shared this journey with us. It’s just the beginning.”
