Sisters found dead in separate rooms in mystery police have been unable to solve

The mystery of two sisters found dead in separate rooms in their apartment is showing no signs of being solved more than a month after their bodies were found.

On Tuesday police released the names and photographs of the two women who were found dead in their beds, in separate bedrooms in the unit in Sydney’s Canterbury on June 7.

Police were called to conduct a welfare check on Asra Abdullah Alsehli, 24, and Amaal Abdullah Alsehli, 23, who arrived in Australia from Saudi Arabia when they were teenagers in 2017.

Police were told they had stopped paying rent and the post was piling up. Detective Inspector Claudia Allcroft, the crime manager of Burwood Local Area Command, revealed it was not the first time police had conducted a welfare check on the women.

Ms Allcroft pleaded to the public to come forward with any information on the sisters, revealing that the authorities still knew very little about the pair.

Authorities refused to comment on the women’s visa status or line of work but said police had been in touch with family in Saudi Arabia, who have instructed the Saudi consulate to act on their behalf.

Police said they had only managed to find, or speak with, two people who knew the sisters, saying that they believed the women “seemed to keep to themselves”.

“The girls were 23 and 24 years old and died together in their home. We don’t know the cause of death, and it’s unusual because of their age and the nature of the matter,” she continued.

Police revealed the woman had been deceased for some time prior to being located, but they are still waiting on toxicology reports.

The building manager raised the alarm after some food was left in the building’s common areas.

It is thought that the sisters owned a business, although police could not expand on what kind of business it was.

Police say they have not yet ruled out homicide or suicide as investigations continue.

“The Burwood community is a small and close community, and we hope that someone may be able to assist our investigators – either through sightings, or those who knew the sisters and may have some information on their movements prior to their death,” Allcroft said.
