Go-Ahead Ireland bus drivers will commence a ballot for industrial action today.
Employees who belong to trade union SIPTU are campaigning for better pay as workers continue to grapple with the cost of living crisis. The dispute rises from Go-Ahead’s alleged refusal to discuss compensating affected workers.
SIPTU previously contacted Go-Ahead to request a meeting regarding the pay dispute. The union maintains that the transport provider refused to engage on the matter.

The transport provider was then requested by SIPTU to attend talks at the Workplace Relations Commission over cost of living concerns. However, it is understood that Go-Ahead declined to attend the talks.
SIPTU organiser Fran McDonnell said: “SIPTU representatives remain available to enter negotiations with management in relation to the issue of pay at the company. Due to the cost of living crisis our members have been left with no alternative but consider taking industrial action in order to protect their livelihoods and those of their families.”
The trade union alleges that Go-Ahead are in breach of the 1990 Industrial Relations Act as a result of their refusal to attend conciliation talks. Go-Ahead is a bus operator in Dublin, which began trading in September 2018. The transport provider operates a number of routes formerly owned by Dublin Bus.
