Singles Are Turning LinkedIn Profiles Into Background Checks Before Agreeing to a Date

Singles are increasingly cross-checking a date's job history, education and mutual connections on LinkedIn before agreeing to meet them, according to new survey data (Credit: Zulfugar Karimov/Pexels)

Before saying yes to a first date, a growing number of singles are pulling up a very different kind of profile. One in five workers now use LinkedIn to research a potential partner they met on a dating app or in real life, according to a survey of 1,023 US employees by resume platform Zety.

Nearly half of respondents, 48 per cent, said they trust the information on a LinkedIn profile more than what they see on a dating app. Zety's report described the shift plainly, noting the platform has unwittingly become 'a more reliable background check than traditional dating apps'.
