Singer Krush can't wait to take to the stage at St Paul’s Carnival

As a teenager, St Pauls Carnival was the highlight of the year for Selena Hall and her friends. Now in her 30s and with Krush as her stage name, the singer, songwriter, rapper and DJ is set to perform at Mandela’s Hideaway alongside Kuumba and Ghetto Force sound system.

Before stepping away from the music scene when she had her first child, Krush had been working with acts like Mike Skinner, The Mitchell Brothers and MC Skibadee who passed away last year. Her turbulent childhood had culminated in living in a hostel at age 16 but the experience became a blessing in disguise as it is where her career in music all kicked off.

It was the early 2000s and Krush was a big fan of UK garage music. As a young female MC, she was often the last to get the mic after all the male performers had their turn but then she would ‘crash’ the set. She was later mistakenly called Krush instead and the name stuck.
