Singer Kacey Musgraves calls out American Airlines over ‘shockingly hostile’ employee

Kacey Musgraves might be a native Texan but she’s definitely not feeling the love from hometown carrier American Airlines.

The 33-year-old country singer called out the airline on Twitter, citing what she described as “appalling and shockingly hostile behavior” by the male chief purser on a recent return flight from Spain. She said other passengers and female flight attendants also were left in disbelief.

“It’s extremely rare for me to want to come to a social media platform to complain about something like this,” Musgraves wrote to her 972,000 Twitter followers on June 5. “I know there are way bigger things going on in the world at the moment. But I truthfully just don’t want anyone else to have my experience.”

She said the employee made her feel unsafe and “upset to the point of crying.” Musgraves didn’t detail what the employee did.

The airline responded to her on Twitter, asking for more details. Derek Walls, American Airlines corporate communications manager, said the airline has “reached out to Ms. Musgraves to learn more about her experience and address her concerns.”

The singer said she intends to report her flying experience to “the proper channels.”

Musgraves, who was born in Golden, Texas, about 80 miles east of Dallas, performed at American Airlines Center in February. She has ties to Dallas-Fort Worth, too. She recalls frequently visiting Fort Worth to sing with a children’s group called the Buckaroos at the historic Fort Worth Stockyards, while sporting Western wear.
