Frances Black has said she was convinced she would be told to leave Leinster House when she was first elected to the Seanad.
And the All The Lies That You Told Me hitmaker admitted she didn’t use the work car park for months because she thought it was only for really important people.
Frances told how she was “in shock” for about six months when she was elected, becoming the first female Independent senator from the Seanad in the history of the State.

“I wasn’t expecting it,” she told Woman’s Way magazine.
The 62-year-old politician told of her first day walking into Leinster House and was convinced she was about to be told to leave by one of the ushers.
“There was an usher standing there, and I thought he might say I wasn’t meant to be there.
“You have that in your mind when you come from a really working-class background.
“Instead, he just smiled at me and said, ‘Good morning, Senator’.”
She said she didn’t even use the car park at first.
“I didn’t even drive my car into the car park for about three months because I thought that was only for important people.
“It has been an incredibly amazing journey and I’ve never taken my job as a senator for granted. I think it’s such a privilege,” she added.
