Simon Jordan urges Sunderland chiefs to appoint Neil Warnock as manager

Simon Jordan believes Sunderland should appoint Neil Warnock to help revive their promotion campaign.

Black Cats chiefs were locked in talks with former boss Roy Keane about the prospect of the fiery Irishman making a sensational return to Wearside.

However, as reported by ChronicleLive, the 50-year-old is no longer under consideration for the job and the search to find Lee Johnson’s replacement continues.

Ex-Crystal Palace owner Jordan believes Warnock - who he employed at Selhurst Park between 2007 and 2010 - would be the perfect fit.

“I think people like Neil Warnock are better suited for that job,” he told talkSPORT.

“He will put his arm around this Sunderland chairman and guide him in the right direction.

“I’m telling you, he’s a pleasure to work with because he makes it easy.

“And this guy (Dreyfus) needs help. This football club is a big nut to crack in terms of the disappointment of where they are and the expectation of the fans.

“You need a manager who’s really able to work alongside him.”

Jordan thinks Keane would have been a risky appointment due to the time he has spent out of the game and his antagonistic personality.

He added: “Roy has been out of frontline management for a long time. We’ve seen nothing but Roy Keane in confrontations. You do need a bit of that, but that can’t be the only skill.

“I think there are more problems for that young owner than there would have been solutions with Roy Keane.”
