Simon Jordan urges Everton to keep Anthony Gordon amid Newcastle United links

Simon Jordan believes Everton should refrain from selling Anthony Gordon to a rival Premier League club. ChronicleLive understands Newcastle United are interested in the youngster, who enjoyed a fine breakthrough season last year.

Gordon was a rare highlight in an otherwise dismal campaign for the Toffees, making 35 top-flight appearances as Frank Lampard’s men narrowly avoided relegation. The Magpies have reportedly been quoted a fee of £35million is what it will take to prise the 21-year-old away from Goodison Park.

Former Crystal Palace owner Jordan insists Gordon is “in the mould” of Everton and is someone they should be trying desperately to keep. In recent years, high-profile names like Wayne Rooney, John Stones and Ross Barkley have all sought pastures new after emerging from the Toffees’ youth setup.

“Gordon is a product of Everton’s academy,” Jordan told talkSPORT. “He is in the mould of wanting to play for Everton.

“He's not some player (who is) coming to Everton, doing them a favour, picking up a big paycheck and, when it suits him better, to be leaving. Everton need their best players in the academy, to embody what the fans want to see which is good young talent coming through.

“The boardroom wants to see a team that isn't producing outcomes that give (Farhad) Moshiri the look of being a court jester. What they want is a team that's winning so Moshiri can sit back and not listen to people tell him how crap he is at running his football club.”
