Simon Cowell rides his bike without a helmet despite breaking his back in cycle crash

Simon Cowell was spotted riding his electric bike without a helmet - despite breaking his back in a horror cycling accident.

The 62-year-old enjoyed getting some fresh air on two wheels with his fiancée Lauren Silverman in Malibu.

The pair looked to be enjoying the sunshine as they rode their bikes through the beachside city.

He wore a protective wrist brace after he broke it during a ride in London near his home in January.

The music mogul took a tumble after turning a sharp corner in wet weather, causing the "bike went out from under him".

Simon was said to have been driving his e-bike at around 20mph when the accident occurred.

He broke his arm after crashing to the ground, but sources say that he was "lucky to be alive".

The Sun reported that he wasn't wearing a helmet at the time and went "flying over the handlebars."

The paper was told by a source: "He slipped and went flying over the handlebars into the middle of the road," and was "rushed to hospital with suspected concussion".

This is the second accident he's had on the saddle after he needed surgery on his spine following a crash in Malibu.

He underwent six hours of surgery and woke up with a metal rod in his back.

Speaking on Extra TV, Simon said: “It could have been a lot worse. When I saw the X-ray, I really nearly could have smashed my spine to pieces, so I literally wouldn’t have been able to walk.”

He said: “I knew I’d broken my back the minute I landed. It was really, really kind of sudden and it hurt.

“You’re not supposed to move. I was thinking: ‘I’ve got to get back into the house because I can’t lie there’… and made myself kind of get carried into my bedroom, which is right there at the beginning of the house... And I’m lying there and I’m kind of passing out… It was surreal.”

In another interview he told People: “I’ve got to be honest with you, it wasn’t that bad actually breaking your back. I mean it wasn’t great for three-to-four weeks but after that you get through it. I had to do so much exercise now. I actually feel better than I did before the accident.”

Simon spoke about having his cast taken off after he was handed the keys to the Las Vegas strip.

He accepted the honour for his contribution to the entertainment industry with many of his acts playing concerts in the area.

The music boss said: "It would have been a lot more fun" had he been given the keys 10 years ago, as he is now engaged to Lauren, 44.

In a video obtained by The Sun he was seen getting emotional as he held the keys, and said: "So the year I decide to get married you give me the key to Las Vegas… great timing."

Mentioning his cast, he said: "I am happy to have it taken off. It was all the way up my arm and it was very difficult to move. I am doing better. The great thing about bones is that they heal."
