Silverware on the mind as Luncarty seek to book place in Alex Jack Cup final

Luncarty manager Robbie Holden is desperate to end the club’s 33-year wait for silverware.

The Bleachers are right in with a chance of picking up a trophy this season and will take to the field in the semi-final of the Alex Jack Cup this weekend.

Tomorrow ’s opponents at Brownlands Park will be Bo’ness Athletic and Holden insists there are plenty reasons why his players should be more motivated than ever to net a victory.

He has been pleased with the attitude and level of training this week ahead of the crunch last-four clash in Perthshire.

“The boys are looking forward to it,” Holden told the Perthshire Advertiser.

“Training was sharp this week and they looked focused so that is a good start.

“The game is right up there in terms of importance. We got to the semi-final of this cup last year and we were disappointed to lose so we want to get into that final this time around.

“A lot of our players haven’t played in a final so the opportunity doesn’t come around as often as you would like as a player. The motivation should be there for them all.

“The club has not won a trophy in 33 years so there is added incentives for these players to go and be the ones who end that record.”

Holden has this season been impressed with Bo’ness, who play in the East of Scotland League Third Division and have carved out an impressive start to their campaign to sit top of the standings with a record of nine wins and one
defeat.

The visitors will arrive at Brownlands Park off the back of what on paper appeared to be a rollercoaster 8-4 South Challenge Cup win against Lochgelly Albert, while Luncarty are hopeful of building on their 2-0 win over St Andrews where James Yates and Ben Scarborough bagged the all-important goals.

Holden is warning against the Bo’ness frontline but is well aware the damage his players can inflict too.

“We know a bit about Bo’ness,” he said this week.

“They have competed well against teams from above and look well positioned to be promoted in style.

“Tiwi Daramola up front is regularly amongst the top scorers in the East of Scotland League and Dylan Paterson represents one of the best players you will see at this level.

“It’s going to be a very difficult job to stop their attacking threat but we have a threat in attack ourselves so let’s see what happens on Saturday.”

As ever, Holden hopes local football fans would consider making the trip to Brownlands to show their support – especially with a spot in the final on the line.

He said: “Bo’ness were involved in a 12-goal thriller on Saturday and our home park has seen lots of goals so it should provide entertainment.

“It would be great to get some people down. The local teams are away from home so I’d love to see a decent turn out for the players.”

Kick-off at Brownlands Park is 2.30pm on Saturday. Admission is £7 for adults, concessions are priced at £4 and U16s go free.
