A range of silver filigree artefacts made by the deft hands of the skilled artisans of Karimnagar found pride of place at the crafts expo being held in connection with the G-20 Summit in New Delhi showcasing the exquisite craft on the international platform.
The silver filigree artisans of Karimnagar, who won fame and a string of awards for their intricate craftsmanship, are elated over the opportunity to display their works of art before the international delegates.
The Silver Filigree of Karimnagar (SIFKA) Handicrafts Welfare Society representing more than 200 members received the Geographical Indication (GI) status in 2007.
SIFKA has added another feather to its cap by producing as many as 200 coat brooches depicting the iconic wheel of the famous Sun Temple of Konark in Odisha for the foreign delegates attending the G20 Summit in the national capital, sources said.
It is a privilege to make coat badges in the shape of ‘Konark Wheel’ for the foreign delegates of the mega G20 Summit, says SIFKA secretary Ashok Kumar.
The silver filigree mementos made by our Karimnagar artisans were presented to several foreign dignitaries including Ivanka Trump during their visits to the State in the past, he recalls.
It is a great honour for our craftsmen to showcase our country’s vibrant arts and crafts besides the glorious cultural heritage at the global fora, he adds, saying a range of silver filigree works of art including decorative and gift silver articles and jewellery are currently being displayed in the art expo at the venue of the G20 Summit in the national capital.
