A New Year means the Great North Run ballot will open soon.
If you want to secure your place among 60,000 runners set to take part in the world's biggest half marathon, then do not forget to enter the ballot before it's too late. Although if you do forget, you could always pick up a fundraising charity place.
The general entry ballot for the Great North Run opens on Monday January 9. From that date, you have until Monday February 20 to enter. The entrants are chosen through a ballot conducted after the deadline.

Great Run has a reminder email service for those interested in entering. Those who sign up will be contacted via email when the ballot opens.
"It doesn’t matter whether you’re running to beat your personal best, to raise some cash for charity or simply for the pint at the end, you’re guaranteed a run like no other – and a finish line feeling you’ll never forget," Great Run states.
"If you’d like to join us on the start line, sign up to our reminder service and we’ll let you know when the 2023 ballot opens."
