Sifu is an action beat 'em up that lets players go on a journey to become a martial artist. You will also have to master the art of kung-fu.

Developer Sloclap's fighting title is an intense and fast-paced game. It almost requires you to read a beginner's guide. Even a split-second decision can spell the difference between victory and defeat.

Things become even harder when there is a group of enemies targeting you. Sifu pits you against foes who will not hesitate to group up and take you on by surrounding and outnumbering you.

This beginner's guide will help players get a handle on things and learn what to prioritize when they first dive into it.

Learn To Duck and Weave

While you might be tempted to simply mash the dodge button when a group of enemies surround you to get out of trouble. The problem with this is that enemy attacks usually track your movement and will still hit you if you dodge too early, according to Sports Illustrated.

You should instead press the block button along with the up or down arrows. This is a block-and-dodge combo that gives you a better chance of avoiding enemy attacks. Even if you fail to dodge, you could still block them.

Work on Permanent Unlocks

In Sifu, skills are relatively easy and cheap to unlock if you plan to use them for a single life. However, if you want them to stick around forever, you need to use your XP to work towards a permanent unlock.

The majority of skills will have this as the initial XP cost for unlocking that particular skill plus five times more of that same XP value. Some players may feel discouraged using up this much XP for no immediate boost. But in subsequent runs, this could prove to be very useful.

Master the Combos

It's very easy for players to fall into the habit of simply mashing buttons when fighting enemies in Sifu.

However, this is very wasteful and can even get you killed at times. You should instead try to learn the combos you have at your disposal and figure out when the best times to use them are.

Some of these are very useful in combat and there are some that you would never have known you could do if you don't check the menu. There are also additional combos that you can unlock through the Skill Tree, Game Spot said.

Make Use of Grab Attacks

On top of your usual combos, you can also grab enemies after parrying their attacks. If you do this successfully, your character will push whichever enemy you parried in whatever direction you are aiming at.

This is particularly useful when you are trying to move enemies around the battlefield. But the main reason to use grab attacks is to try and throw enemies from high points. This could be balconies or stairs, according to The Gamer.
