Siege gunman shot dead by Qld police

Officers have fatally shot an armed man after a stand-off at a home in Ipswich. (AAP)

An armed gunman has been shot dead during a stand off with police at Ipswich.

Officers attempted to negotiate with the 27-year-old before it's alleged he made threats and was shot at about 12.30pm on Sunday.

He was treated at the scene southwest of Brisbane, but was unable to be revived.

The Ethical Standards Command will investigate the shooting on behalf of the Queensland coroner.

Authorities declared an emergency situation at One Mile at about 11.15am after reports of a man with a firearm.

Residents were warned to stay inside their homes as police negotiators made contact with the man.

Initial reports suggest the gunman was in the yard and approached police while holding the weapon.

Police have declared Ernest and Woodford streets crime scenes and public access is restricted.
