A GP practice has slammed "sickening" social media abuse received by its hard working staff.
Bosses at Marnock Medical Group in Kilmarnock told how they came under fire on their Facebook page yesterday.
The GP practice dealt with over 600 patients on Tuesday, when the practice manager revealing she had to send a GP home mid-surgery after she had fainted.
Marnock Medical has two practices - one in London Road, Kilmarnock the other in Kilmaurs.
And last night, the furious Medical Group took to their Facebook page to detail abuse they had received while trying to tend to patients.
A post read: “The level of abuse my staff have faced today has been sickening.
“The GP was very unwell this morning but still struggled in because we care about our patients and their care.
"I have received a direct message on this page from one of our patients asking sarcastically why my staff need a holiday today when we have just been off for the last four days.
“Most of my GPs work through the holidays by supporting the out of hours service over the holiday periods including Christmas, New Year, Easter, Bank holidays. The abuse of staff has to stop immediately.”
Vicki Campbell, Head of Primary and Urgent Care Services, told Ayrshire Live: “NHS Ayrshire & Arran has a zero-tolerance policy and believe all our staff have the right to work in a safe environment free from violence and aggression. No-one should go to their work to be abused or intimidated.
"GP practices are independent contractors and managed individually. After receiving abusive messages, Marnock Medical Group made the decision to support their staff and deter further offensive comments from patients.”
