On Aug 17, the Siam Society Under Royal Patronage invites classical music lovers to join in to see special performances of Beethoven and Schubert's early string quartets by Pro Musica Quartet. Since Thailand does not have a regular, full-time string quartet, this is quite a rare opportunity to hear the repertoire.
Pro Musica was a familiar name among lovers of string quartet music during the 60s. Today, the four members consist of Leo Phillips, violin; Jirajet Jetsadachet, violin; Tasana Nagavajara, viola; and Panyaphat Wongwechwiwat, violoncello.
The band played lots of Haydn, some Mozart and early Beethoven, and that was the beginning of Western classical music in Bangkok.
The main works to be played will be tuneful and nostalgic, including, Franz Schubert's String Quartet No. 9 In G minor, D.173 and String Trio In B Flat Major, D.471, and Ludwig van Beethoven's String Quartet No.4 In C minor, Op.18, No.4.
"Beethoven And Schubert: The Early String Quartets By Pro Musica Quartet" is on Aug 17 from 7pm at the Auditorium at The Siam Society, Sukhumvit 21, Klong Toey.
Tickets are 600 baht (members), 800 baht (non-members), and 200 baht (students). Please contact Khun Chuleeporn at 02 661 6470-3 ext 201 or chuleeporn@thesiamsociety.org
