Si King has revealed what Dave Myers “would have wanted” for him as he admitted to having struggled following his friend’s death earlier this year.
Myers and King first met in 1992 and went on to work together for decades as double-act the Hairy Bikers on a series of hugely successful cooking TV shows, books and live appearances.
King was by his friend’s side when Myers died in February aged 66 following a battle with cancer.
Opening up in a new interview with The Sunday Times, King said at times he has felt like getting on his bike and heading “into the sunset” but knows that's not what Myers would have wanted.
He said: “The answer is I am going to take some time to reflect on the life I had with my best mate, and think about moving forwards. Which is exactly what Dave would have wanted. Move forward, don't dwell on the past.”
King also reflected on filming their emotional final seven-part special The Hairy Bikers Go West, calling it “the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do”.
He explained: “[Dave] wanted to travel up and down the west coast of the UK - an area he loved and where he'd been born. Oh God, that last series was by the far the most difficult thing I've ever had to do in my entire life.
“The crew felt it too; some of whom had been with us since the start. All of us trying to carry on as normal, trying not to lose it.”
The last episode aired in March.
In June, King announced that the Hairy Bikers brand would be no more, saying it wouldn’t be “respectful” for him to continue solo.
Speaking to The Guardian about his decision, the TV chef said: “It can't be the Hairy Bikers 2.0. That's not going to happen. It wouldn't be respectful.”
He added: “It's definitely a time of change and change comes at a cost and that cost has been my best friend.”
