Shubman Gill becomes fastest Indian, 2nd fastest overall to 3,000 ODI runs in India vs Afghanistan 1st ODI

Captain Shubman Gill became the fastest Indian and second-fastest player overall to reach 3,000 ODI runs on Saturday, reaching the milestone during the first ODI against Afghanistan at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. The right-handed batter also brought up a half-century in the process.

Gill surpassed Shikhar Dhawan, who held the previous Indian record, having taken 72 innings to reach the milestone. Dhawan had held the record among Indian batters until Gill eclipsed it. Gill came into the match needing 47 runs to get to 3,000, having accumulated 2,953 runs in 61 ODI innings at an average of 55.71.

The milestone adds to a growing list of records for the 25-year-old, who has consistently rewritten ODI batting landmarks since his debut. Gill had earlier become the fastest player overall to reach 2,500 ODI runs, achieving the feat in just 50 innings, surpassing South Africa's Hashim Amla.

Debutants Dubey, Brar shine as India keep Afghanistan in check

Earlier in the day, debutants Harsh Dubey and Gurnoor Brar claimed three wickets each as India restricted Afghanistan to 194 in a rain-truncated contest reduced to 25 overs per side.

Dubey returned figures of 3/47 from his five overs while Brar was more economical, finishing with 3/27 from 4.5 overs. Arshdeep Singh and Nitish Kumar Reddy chipped in with two wickets apiece.

Afghanistan's innings was largely held together by opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who scored a quickfire 102 off 51 balls, hitting eight fours and eight sixes. Afghanistan were bowled out for 194 in 24.5 overs.
