Shreyas Iyer joins high-flying Mumbai team

MUMBAI: In a big boost to Mumbai, India batsman Shreyas Iyer has joined the team in Rajkot for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, and will be available for their next match against Rajasthan on Tuesday.

Iyer, who is amongst India's standbys for the T20 World Cup, has joined Mumbai as the squad's 16th member. Since the BCCI's rules stipulate that only 15 can be allowed in the dugout, Suryansh Shedge (Shardul Thakur's replacement) will have to sit out of that area.

Having won all the four matches, Mumbai, who are topping the eight-team Group A, just need to win their next game to qualify for the knockout round.

In another piece of good news for them, skipper Ajinkya Rahane, who missed the last two games after having twisted his ankle while fielding in the Madhya Pradesh game, will be back to lead the side. Prithvi Shaw had captained Mumbai against Assam and Vidarbha.
