Shreveport's former Libbey Glass plant faces demolition, with 95% of materials set for recycling

Full-scale structural demolition is under way at the former Libbey Glass plant in Shreveport after specialist crews successfully cleared industrial contaminants across more than 850,000 square feet of floor space. The milestone, announced by the North Louisiana Economic Partnership (NLEP) and reported by KEDM Public Radio and KSLA, removes the primary environmental barrier to redeveloping the 54-acre industrial property at 4302 Jewella Avenue. Known as the I-20 Legacy Site, the location is being prepared to host new commercial and industrial employers along one of North Louisiana's most strategic transport corridors. Work at the site began with targeted abatement activities before expanding into full environmental remediation. With hazardous materials now safely extracted, heavy machinery is moving across the property to dismantle the remaining structural frames and overhead infrastructure.
