The Detroit Lions shocked a lot of people last night when they took Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs with the pick no. 12 in the 2023 NFL draft. Now, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler is reporting that the Lions are receiving calls for Swift who has expressed some interest in being moved after the Gibbs pick. With Kareem Hunt out the door, should the Cleveland Browns be on the phones?
General manager Andrew Berry should call up Detroit and see what it would take to get Swift, who would be a good fit in the Browns’ scheme. They need a change of pace number two running back, especially one that is a threat out of the backfield as a pass catcher like Swift is.
Swift had a good season last year for the Lions, rushing for 5.5 yards per carry and five touchdowns. He also added 389 receiving yards on 63 targets, scoring three touchdowns. Overall, PFF gave Swift a 78.1 overall grade and an 83.2 rushing grade with the ability to be elusive and make people miss in the open field.
Though the team would only get one year of control, Swift is still on his rookie contract and for 2023 will only cost $2.7 million on the cap. It will all be about the price, but Swift would fill an open role on the team with proven ability in the NFL.
