'Should be fun!' - Manchester United fans react as Erik ten Hag makes positional change vs Fulham

Erik ten Hag has named his starting line-up for Manchester United's Premier League clash with Fulham at Craven Cottage this afternoon, making a collection of changes.

United, who are unbeaten in their last 14 meetings with the Cottagers, will be looking to post a second successive victory following Thursday night's 4-2 Carabao Cup win over Aston Villa and head into the World Cup break on a high. Victory over Villa ensured the Reds got back to winning ways at the first attempt after losing to the same opponent in the league last weekend.

It means that Ten Hag will be eager to see another victory from his side, in what marks the Reds' penultimate away game of 2022. The Dutchman, as expected, has opted to make several changes to the side that won in the Carabao Cup, making six in total.

David de Gea, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Christian Eriksen, Anthony Elanga and Casemiro have come into the side, meaning Martin Dubravka, Diogo Dalot, who is suspended, Harry Maguire, Scott Mcominay, Donny van de Beek and Fred have dropped out.

Meanwhile, youngsters Zidane Iqbal and Alejandro Garnacho have been named among the substitutes. However, Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Antony remain unavailable.

Having made the decision to make six changes to the side that was victorious less than 72 hours ago, Ten Hag will be hoping to see another victory from his team, as they aim to head into the World Cup pause just three points shy of the top-four. It is the Dutchman's decision to seemingly deploy Tyrell Malacia at right-back that has attracted the most attention from United's supporters in the immediate aftermath of the team news being confirmed.

Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what some of United's supporters have had to say in response to Ten Hag's decision to start the left-sided full-back at right-back in the absence of Dalot.

As you can see from the messages displayed in the tweets above, Ten Hag's decision to start the former Feyenoord ace in an unnatural position has generated a mixed response. Some Reds fans fear United could be exposed down their right, with Elanga starting ahead of the Dutchman.

United starting line-up: De Gea; Malacia, Lindelof, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes; Elanga, Martial, Rashford.

Substitutes: Dubravka, Bishop, Maguire, Fred, McTominay, Van de Beek, Iqbal, Garnacho.

This afternoon's contest kicks-off at 4:30pm and you can follow all of the action on our live matchday blog, which you can access by clicking here.
