Shotts boss John McKeown says a 4-1 friendly win over Fauldhouse ‘papered over the cracks’ and warned his side aren’t progressing as well as he hoped by this point.
McKeown reckons he needs three more players to add experience, but says he’s up against it this week as he faced Clydebank last night (Tuesday) and Pollok on Saturday.
He said: “We’re a bit short and away from where I want to be for the season starting, in all honesty, and we’ve still to add in a few positions.
“I need a centre-half, striker and a winger.
“We played Fauldhouse at the weekend and won 4-1, but I think it papered over a lot of cracks.
“We still looked a bit fragile, so I still fee that I need to add a few experienced players.
“We’re working on a few things but it’s very difficult to get players in and even guys on loan.
“Most teams are still playing friendlies to see how they’re shaping up before they let people go out.
“I’m not quite happy with where we’re at, but hopefully we’ll get there on time.
“We’ve got Clydebank on Tuesday night and Pollok on Saturday, but we’ve got five or six starters away this week, so it’s going to be difficult.
“At the end of the day it’s a chance for the young ones who are on trial to show that they can stand up to that level.”
