A man recovering in hospital after being shot by Brisbane police has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing an officer in the chin.
The 38-year-old allegedly attacked the male constable in his 40s before he was shot at an apartment block at Kangaroo Point on Wednesday morning.
He's in a stable condition under police guard at Princess Alexandra Hospital, while the stabbed officer was taken to the Mater Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later discharged.
Police charged the man with attempted murder and serious assault of a police officer at a bedside hearing on Thursday.
"It is alleged the 38-year-old man confronted police and stabbed a male Senior Constable in his 40s to the chin with a knife," a police statement said on Thursday.
"It is alleged police directed the man to drop the weapon and he did not comply, and he was shot once to the abdomen."
The man was remanded in custody and is due to reappear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 10.
Meanwhile, the Ethical Standards Command is probing the circumstances of the man's shooting.
Police were serving warrant on a resident at the unit complex in Riverview Terrace when a neighbour unexpectedly burst in and attacked an officer with a 20-centimetre serrated knife.
He tried to run away, but police confronted him and told him to drop the weapon.
The officers then tried to taser the man before a junior female constable shot him once in the waist.
Following the incident, police on Wednesday said the officers had been investigating an alleged stabbing in June involving the same alleged offender, in a matter that was currently before the courts.
Police had previously visited the address in relation to mental health concerns, Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham told reporters.
