Thursday was an up-and-down day for Tiger Woods, as he posted a 1-over 72 during the first round of the 2024 Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.
Woods teed off for his second round at 2:54 p.m. ET Friday and played alongside Justin Thomas and Gary Woodland. He was part of ESPN+ coverage (and Golf Channel beginning at 4 p.m. ET).
However, after playing his first six holes in 1 over, Woods withdrew from the event due to illness (and social media went into a frenzy).
The Genesis is the PGA Tour’s third signature event of the year but will feature a 36-hole cut. The top 50 and ties, plus anyone 10 shots back of the leader(s) will make it to the weekend.

Par-5 1st
Shot 1: With less than driver, Tiger plays a beautiful little cut and his ball BARELY stays in the fairway. Go zone on No.1.
Shot 2: 203 yards left into the pin. A high cut lands a little short of the pin but the ball climbs the hill and rolls to the left. He has a great look for eagle.
Shot 3: Stays out to the right. Will have a little something to clean up.
Shot 4: Bang.
SCORE: 1 under through 1, even-par total
Par-4 2nd
Shot 1: Oh, that’s nice, Tiger. Cut driver into the middle of the fairway.
Shot 2: Decent shot into the green. It doesn’t find the putting surface, but he’ll have a putt inside 20 feet for birdie.
Shot 3: From just under 13 feet, he misses low.
Shot 4: Par
SCORE: 1 under through 2, even-par total
Par-4 3rd
Shot 1: Another great tee ball. Fairway again.
Shot 2: Scoring club in hand. Another missed green, but he should be able to putt it. But not a great shot from there.
Shot 3: Misses it low and short.
Shot 4: Par.
SCORE: 1 under through 3, even-par total

Shot 1: Way, way right at the long par 3. That’ll be a tough up and down.
Shot 2: Not great, folks. Runs it way by. Looking like bogey.
Shot 3: Jams it by. Oh boy.
Shot 4: Okay. Makes it.
SCORE: Even through 4, 1-over total
Par-4 5th
Shot 1: His drive found the left rough, will be a tricky second.
Shot 2: Bad lie. Comes up just short of the green. Long chip coming up.
Shot 3: Goes with putter, and that was horrendous. Yuck. Still has 20 feet.
Shot 4: Left it short.
Shot 5: Bogey.
SCORE: 1-over through 5, 2-over total
Par-3 6th
Shot 1: Swing looks tight to me today. He misses the green left.
Shot 2: Not a great lie. Quick chip. Comes up short. Testing the putter again.
Shot 3: Oh, rims it in!

Shot 1: Less than driver, finds the fairway. Good swing.
