Shorter Showers, Fewer Flushes: WSSC Water Asks 1.9 Million Customers to Conserve After Potomac Plant Outage

WSSC Water's 1.9 million customers in Montgomery and Prince George's counties were still being asked to use water only for essential needs as of Wednesday morning, Sept. 30, even though power had been restored at the utility's Potomac Water Filtration Plant. In an update posted at 9:35 p.m. Tuesday, WSSC Water said the request would continue and system storage "was drawn down significantly during the outage" and would refill overnight and into Wednesday, when demand is lowest.

The utility said it would reevaluate the system Wednesday morning to decide whether the request could be lifted. On Wednesday, NBC4 Washington reported that WSSC officials aimed to lift the request by noon. Until the utility announces that the request has ended, it remains in effect for all customers in both counties.
