Shore Road fire: Two people rescued after Belfast flat blaze

Two people have been led to safety after a flat fire in North Belfast.

The incident happened on the second floor of 13-storey residential building on Mount Vernon Road, off the Shore Road, on Tuesday, October 25 at around 5.15pm.

Nine fire appliances attended the incident - two from Whitla, one from Central, one from Westland, two from Knock, two from Lisburn and one from Springfield.

A NIFRS spokesperson added: "Firefighters were called to a well-developed fire on the second floor of a 13-storey residential building. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three jets to extinguish the fire.

"Two people were led to safety by firefighters and taken into the care of Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.

"The incident was dealt with by 7.29pm and the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental ignition."
