Shoppers to see change when they pay at self-scan checkouts at Tesco from Monday

Shoppers will see a change in self-service checkouts from Monday.

The latest change will be in place for three weeks from September 12 until October 12. Before people pay for their shopping, they will be asked if they would like to round up their total to the nearest pound, LeicestershireLive reports.

Should they say yes, the money will be used by Tesco to help support a fundraising campaign for three of the UK's leading health charities. The nationwide change will see shoppers able to donate to Cancer Research UK, the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK, with Tesco hoping that the change will further enable the charities to continue their vital work to improve and save lives.

In addition to funds being raised, the in-store campaign aims to increase awareness about the importance of making sustainable lifestyle changes which could help people to lower the impact of conditions and diseases that the three charities support.

Oonagh Turnbull, head of health campaigns at Tesco, said: "The funds raised will continue to support the health of UK communities at such a critical time. Our health charity partners rely on donations to continue their awareness, prevention and research work."

Michelle Mitchell, chief executive at Cancer Research UK, said: "We’d like to thank everyone who supports the important work we all do through this campaign, and we’re grateful for the generosity of shoppers up and down the country. Campaigns like ‘Helping you to live healthier’ are a great way to raise money, and to encourage people to make healthier choices that lead to healthier lifestyles.

"Every penny raised matters. We don’t take a single donation for granted."
