The announcement of a new addition to the Metrocentre on Thursday sent shoppers into an excited frenzy as the Gateshead shopping centre gave a first glimpse at its new H&M Home store.
Metrocentre revealed the news on their Facebook page, showing off the newly refurbished and upsized H&M which now includes the only H&M Home branch in the region. Located in the centre’s Red Mall, the shiny new North East flagship store extends across two floors.
The H&M Home website features furniture and accessories for the living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, outdoors and kids’ room, so shoppers can expect to find a huge variety in-store. The 26,000 square feet store also houses a large clothing selection for women, men and kids.

The announcement racked up more than 5,000 comments on Facebook as excited shoppers rushed to tag their friends and family to plan a trip to the new store. “Not been to the Metrocentre for a mooch since before Covid but this seems a good reason to return,” one person said.
Another commented: “I can feel a shopping spree coming on.”
“Wow how good is this!” a third Facebook user said. “I’ve been to the one on [London's] Regents St and that was fab.”
Metrocentre also offered shoppers a sneak peek at the inside of the store over on their TikTok page. The video tour gave a glimpse of the extensive homeware collection, from cushions and bedding to kitchenware.
TikTok users also shared their excitement over the new store, with one person commenting: “I so need a visit here, def coming to the Metrocentre for the millionth time.”
Another TikTok user added: “Oooo I’ve just had a new kitchen, I need a visit!!!”
Toni Galli, country manager for H&M UK & Ireland, said that the new opening “will be the leading store of the North East”, adding that they hope to offer Metrocentre shoppers “a modern and meaningful shopping experience”.
The new H&M is the fifth new store to open in the centre’s Red Mall this year, joining clothing shops Boss, Lids, Castore and Carvela. Metrocentre is set to welcome another new addition in June with the arrival of H beauty by Harrods in the refurbished Town Square.
