Shoppers ask 'is this a joke?' over Morrisons' £8.25 price tag for Yorkshire Tea

Shoppers are asking the same question over the price tag on a box of Yorkshire Tea in Morrisons - "Is this a joke?"

The supermarket is selling a pack of 240 teabags for £8.25, around double the price of what you can buy them for elsewhere.

A photo of the packs with the price clearly visible on the shelf was shared in a budget Facebook group alongside the comment "Is this a joke spotted in Morrisons yesterday box of 240 tea bags!"

Hundreds of people responded to the post, many of them equally shocked by the price.

"More fool anyone paying it. Boycott is the only way forward. They're taking us for mugs!" said one.

"Morrisons are a disgrace the amount they have increased their prices you'd be cheaper shopping in Marks and Sparks," said another.

A third added: "Think someone made a muck up with the price labels. No way would anyone pay that. They are having a joke."

The price is however confirmed on the Morrisons website, where the pack of 240 is listed for £8.25.

One shopper shared a photo of the pack alongside the comment "Is this a joke spotted in Morrisons yesterday box of 240 tea bags!" (Facebook)

The smaller 160 pack is usually £5.99, but currently on offer for £4, while the pack of 80 is £3.29 and the smallest 40-pack £1.99.

Many of those commenting on the post said the larger pack can usually be found for around the price that Morrisons is selling it for.

"You can get the same thing for £4.50 in B&M!!!," said one. While another added: "OMG. Think they were £4.50 in Lidl and Iceland recently."

It's not the first time that Morrisons has been under fire over its price hikes. Only last month it was accused of robbing shoppers with eye-watering price of giant pumpkins, with its biggest one priced at £8.99.

And in our weekly price comparison of basics like bread and milk, the supermarket has been the most expensive for months now, with shoppers accusing it of 'laughing at customers' with regular increases.

A spokesperson for Morrisons said: "This is an unprecedented period of inflation and we are working hard to keep prices down and competitive for our customers. We do have Yorkshire Tea on promotion at the moment, 480 tea bag pack is £11 and the 160 tea bag pack is on promotion at £4."
